Stairlift FAQs

Is my staircase too narrow for a stairlift?

There are a variety of modern lifts that have been designed with difficult stair cases in mind. You won’t know what stairlift will fit your stairs until a trained surveyor visits your property – however more often than not we are able to find a stairlift for every stair case we visit without comprising safety or practicality.

Is my wall strong enough to support a stairlift?

This is one of the most common questions however there is no need to worry about damage to the walls structure.

There will be no damage to your wall or the structure of your wall as all stairlifts are fitted to the staircase.

There is a doorway at the bottom of my stairs - will this cause a problem?

There are a variety of modern stairlifts that have been designed with difficult staircases in mind. In most cases we will find a stairlift that can be fitted without causing major obstruction to a door.

How much does a stairlift cost?

It’s hard to give an exact cost of a stairlift as it depends on a variety of factors. To get a precise estimate it is always best to get a no obligation quotation from one of our trained surveyors.

Once a surveyor has visited your property we can give you an exact price.

As a guide, a new straight stairlift could cost from £900 and a new curved stairlift could cost from £3000.

Why are curved stairlifts more expensive?

Stairlifts fitted on curved staircases tend to be more expensive because the rail is custom made. For curved staircases the rail on which the stairlift sits has to be custom made to the properties measurements.

How much does it cost to run a stairlift?

Stairlifts cost very little to run and will be one of the most inexpensive & environmentally friendly things you run in your house.

Will people still be able to walk up the stairs with a stairlift fitted?

Modern stair lifts are designed with everyone in mind. We make sure there is plenty of room for other people to walk up and down the stairs when the stairlift is not in use.

We understand that there are often other people living in a property who might not need or want to use the stairlift so we do our best to accommodate the needs of others too.

How do I know which stairlift is the one for me?

Having a stairlift installed can be a life changing decision and we will work with you to find the stairlift that is best suited to your needs.

Our surveyors will listen to what you are looking for and try to find something that fits. If you are buying a new stairlift the majority of lifts come with a variety of options including seat & rail colour to match your décor.

As part of our service surveyors make sure you will find the stairlift comfortable and sit on it at the right height to avoid any difficulty when getting on and off the lift.

Where can I try a stairlift?

Having a stairlift installed can be a big decision, and you want to make sure it’s the right solution for you. We always recommend on our quotations that you try out a stairlift at our showroom before you commit to a purchase.

How noisy are stairlifts?

Stairlifts aren’t as noisy as most people think and have come a long way in recent years. Each stairlift is different however the majority produce very little noise when travelling up & down your stairs and are almost silent.

Can I buy a reconditioned stairlift?

Yes. Reconditioned stairlifts are often a cheaper alternative to a brand new. If it is a curved staircase and for some straight staircases you will still have to pay for a custom rail to be made. The reconditioned part of the stair lift is the seat and carriage.

Mr M, Poole

This morning I phoned Liftability seeking help!

Our Stannah 600 stairlift showed code 9, suggesting a ‘service engineer required’.

The lady who answered was very helpful and courteous, quickly and kindly she offered to arrange for an engineer to call this afternoon. Rob J came and quickly diagnosed the fault and made the necessary repair. He was very friendly, professional and courteous.

We rely so much on our stairlift, it enables us to continue to live in a two story house. Please thank your staff for this superb service, we appreciate the friendly and efficient way they helped ‘two old Fossils on the Jurassic Coast’!!!
